It’s not panicked. It’s prepared.
Be ready. Be aware. Be the difference. BECOME A PREPARED CITIZEN
PARATUS PRINCIPLES
The Foundation of a Prepared Citizen
At The Paratus Group, we combine faith, mindset, and daily practice to empower people to take back responsibility—for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Through interactive learning and realistic scenarios, you develop the human capabilities, habits, and behaviors to recognize what matters, anticipate what could happen, and act with purpose. These capabilities help you navigate everyday challenges, prevent avoidable harm, and recognize opportunities to help others.
The 4Ps: Pray • Prepare • Prevent • Protect
Pray — Seek God’s guidance, wisdom, and discernment. Begin with humility and a willingness to act.
Prepare — Develop the skills, habits, and plans to fulfill your responsibilities and respond within your capabilities.
Prevent — Recognize changing conditions and warning signs early. Make informed decisions that reduce risk before problems escalate.
Protect — Take purposeful action to safeguard yourself and others, seek help when needed, and support those in your care.
10 Critical Skills That Build Prepared Citizens
Self-Awareness • Perspective • Perceptive Skills • Active Listening • Critical Thinking • Decision Making • Communication • Learning Agility • Empathy • Humility
These skills shape how you notice, understand, decide, communicate, and act. Through consistent practice, they become habits you can apply at home, at work, at church, and throughout your community.
The Paratus Process: Put Your Skills Into Action
Identify → Assess → Predict → Decide → Act
Identify what is happening. Assess its meaning. Predict what could happen next. Decide on an appropriate response. Act within your capabilities—and reassess as conditions change.
Being prepared is not the destination. It enables you to live, serve, and fulfill your responsibilities. Prepared citizens help us take back responsibility—one person, one family, and one community at a time.

THE PARATUS GROUP FOUNDER & PRESIDENT
Brian “Patton” Searcy is the Founder and President of The Paratus Group and author of A Nation Unaware. His mission is to empower people to become prepared citizens who take back responsibility—for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Brian’s approach begins with developing the human capabilities people need to recognize changing conditions, anticipate what could happen, make sound decisions, and act with purpose. Grounded in faith and strengthened through daily practice, the 4Ps—Pray, Prepare, Prevent, Protect—and 10 Critical Skills build habits that support everyday responsibility, safety, leadership, and service.
Following a 23-year Air Force career as a commander and combat veteran, Brian brought his experience in leadership, readiness, and decision making to the challenges people face at home, at work, at school, and at church. He co-founded The Paratus Group in 2019 to help people turn knowledge into practical capabilities and consistent behaviors.
Through the Paratus Process—Identify, Assess, Predict, Decide, Act—Brian and the Paratus team empower people to recognize concerns earlier, reduce avoidable risks, respond within their capabilities, and recognize opportunities to help others.
For Brian, being prepared is not the destination. It enables people to live, serve, protect, and fulfill their responsibilities.
